I wrote this yesterday Saturday Nov 27,2010 'This day this hour I am thankful for my church men folk three in particular, Gene Styers, Mark Plummer and Jim Midkiff. They took their Saturday morning to come out to my leaf infested yard and move my leaves away from my house They brought their own leaf blowers and rakes. They all have homes and yards of their own but they did mine for me! Our church teaches service and they complied so well. I have so much respect and appreciation for them. My Dear Husband tried to help even with his oxygen tank on his back. He didn't do very well. He made the statement he was just lazy or he could have done it. That is NOT true he can't breath to do it. So that makes me especially grateful to the men from our church coming to help. Thanks ya'll. '
And this today
The leaves have been there for a while. My oldest son and his wife came out in June and helped with the front yard getting up last years leaves. That lasted about 3 months till more were down everywhere. We have loads of trees. But I am grateful for the trees because it cuts my light bill down far below my neighbors. Our home is all-electric so that could cause a huge electric bill. But because of my trees it is not so high. I am thankful for my trees too.

Today this hour I am thankful for indoor plumbing. I know that sounds funny to young Americans. But I was between 5-10 when my Grandmother got indoor plumbing. And since that is where my mother and I lived that while Daddy was in the Navy and mother was in college at Greensboro Womens' College aka Greensboro Teachers college now known as UNCG. that was a big deal. Getting a toilet, tub and sinks with faucets was exciting! 'Cause before that we had an outhouse, slop jar (yuk), a dry sink with a water bucket and a large galvanized tub for bathing. I know I am not that old but that was how it was. (Funny part was they had electricity through the rural co-op before my mother graduated high school in the early 1950's. LOL) But this hour I am thankful for indoor plumbing.

wow is it ever difficult to blog when you can't log on
I thought maybe I couldn't log on because it had been so very long since I wrote here but that didn't seem to be it either. Still don't know why it happened, but I am just glad it is over. Now that I can log on again I'll try to do better writing more often. I am breathing better. My legs are still swellng and everything still hurts, but other than that I am doing some better. I hope to get stronger soon. My body just seems really tired. I went for an MRI in one of those little ones and had a panic attack almost. I got in there and could NOT BREATH. They had to pull me right out. The tech said it was probably a good thing because my arms were touching and being so fair skinned I probably would have gotten burned. Who knew that could even happen? Not me! So they scheduled me for an open one. I thought it would be that really big one that looks like a Stargate. But it wasn't. The machine was still a right in your face adventure. Fortunately I could see out a window and my head wasn't strapped down like in the little one. But still the big one was uncomfortable and very hot. I couldn't move my arms much and could not wipe my forehead so that was miserable when the sweat trickled down like bugs crawling. Yes I sweat. I know! Some southern women glow or get dewy, but not me. I sweat. I survived this MRI though and did not panic. I got through it pretty well. But was I ever glad when it was over. still do not have results from that. I have a very different back pain, different from all the other fibromyalgia and arthritis pain. I see the Doc on Tuesday. I'll know more then. Well I must go night night. I'll let ya'll know what happens later. Keep smiling! It can only get better.

Finally went to dr (Monday week ago) got BIG shot in big butt. Started oral antibiotics. Dr called to see how I was doing. Did not like what he heard told me to come in again today.
Hey ya'll, a quick update before I go fall back into bed. Went back to the Dr today at his request. Temp still 99.9. Breathing badly. Second round of antibiotics. Lungs are filling up with fluid. This time drugs includes a new prescription for lasix (I don't care if that is spelled right its phonetically right) i have staphylococcal pneumonia with strep. Dr said no anything and nothing strenuous. Found out what strenuous means now. Not much. Must rest going to the computer or the bathroom for that matter. Dr said this will probably take 6 weeks to get some of my strength back. This stinks just plain skunky! I know. He said I had never been this sick before so it is going to take a long time to get well. Period. Rest must have rest no Farmville. sorry so crazy delerious. Later ya’ll. See ya on the Internet.

I love the quiet of the snow. The sound it makes as it falls, whispers as it blankets everything and makes it pure. Covering all the junk in the yard and the imperfections of our land, all that brown out there now. Then here where we live it also buffers out sound. At least until the neighbors realize they forgot something at the store or what ever reason CRAZY people use to get out in the stuff to get out there spinning in their driveways trying desperately to go places. Or until the neighborhood kids get out there on their four wheelers with no mufflers. At least until then it is SO peaceful, SO blissfully silent.
I love snow, my grandmother, Nana, LOVED snow. She always used to call when it snowed, excited as a child. You could hear it in her voice, the sheer delight. 'Mits, it SNOWING! Is it snowing at your house?! Has it covered the ground yet? Do you have enough birdseed?'
Mother loved snow only if it came on the weekend OR if it was enough to close school for a week. As a teacher/vice-principle, she dreaded it when it came like it often does here in the south, just enough to close school for 1 day and then thaw and refreeze at night making for really bad roads for the buses. But I remember 1 year in the late 1960 or very early 1970's, we had a huge snow for our area. A 'surprise snow' that fell on Saturday night. We got to stay home from church with no guilt. (THAT was a BIG DEAL-cause we went to church if there was a breeze through the doors in ALL regular weather) and then we were home for what seemed like a whole week! She decided to watch TV that Sunday. She fell in love with Wide World of Sports. She from then on loved to hear the theme song for that show cause it reminded her of the 'time we got to stay home from church for snow'.
Nana and Moma are gone now. Moma 20 years this past Christmas day. Nana only lived about 6 months after we lost Pappaw in December 1997. They were married for 62 years. Isn't that how it sometimes goes with folks married that long.
Nana got to see the last snow of all snows like the one in the 1960's when it snowed every Wednesday for 3 weeks in a row. That one I was little and spent almost the whole time sledding on our then dead-end street and all over Starmount Forrest golf course. Back in those days you spent time outside with the neighborhood kids from light to dark and sometimes came home for lunch. Now a days you don't dare let your kids stay gone all day. People are different now. Evil is out there now. Ya GOT to KEEP your eye on your kids now a days.
Anyway Nana got to see the snow in the early 1990's that lasted for 3 weeks with more snow falling every week. That was the last big snow she got to see here. I hope there is a small part of heaven that has snow just for her.
Here in the south, big, long lasting snows are so rare that we really appreciate them. And most of us that can STAY HOME during this kinda weather. Even my dad who was from New Hampshire originally, but lived here longer than he lived there, knew to stay home when it snowed down here. However, I do remember my yankee friends (no offence, ya’ll) from high school saying ‘youse guys just don’ts know how to drive in snow’ And I tried to explain how OUR snow is different here. (Daddy said so.) But they always said, Snow is snow and go flying off. I tried to tell them here we ALWAYS have a layer of ice under our snow and to be careful. They would laugh really big and go driving off like bats out of you know where. Sorry to say I got the last laugh most times cause THEY were almost ALWAYS the FIRST ones in the ditch crying for a tow truck! I went to a private Christian school and we had students from all over the US at our little school. Remind me to tell you about my school later.
Well anyway. I love looking out the windows and doors at the snow, taking pictures of it and making snow cream. Feeding the birds and watching them, naming all I can name with out looking at the bird book I inherited from Nana. Nana did the same thing while I lived with her as a little girl. We use to look out her picture window and see how many different birds we could name. Nana always had 4-5 feeders cleaned up and filled up before the snow got here. We would watch the snow and the birds for hours and hours! And the quiet! The only thing we heard was the snow falling and the birds fussin over the feeders. And the hiss of the oil stove. So I guess I get my love for snow honest. Ya think?
By the way the final season of LOST comes on Tuesday night. I'll be DVRing it cause it comes on opposite NCIS and NCIS LA. I'll probably DVR the whole season so I won't miss any of the fun.
Well I gotta run.
Later ya'll. See ya on the Internet.

Pralines
Well ya'll I did get several things done today including making husband of mine an old recipe from my teenage years (can tell by my kid style handwriting) called Praline turns out to really be a no bake. But this time something did not go right and it was sticky and does not want to really set up nice and firm. Must have been too much PB.Thinking back over the process I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the measurements. I use the 'dump method', most of the time anyway and just eyeball it. Just like my mother and grandmother and great grandmother taught me. This time I just didn't 'eyeball' it close enough. Husband eats them anyway cause they taste really good and he needed a chocolate fix any way. I put a few more things up on Craig's list. A few of my ACEO art cards went up tonight.
I am planning to when it finally quits raining to go out and photograph my old 1972 van and put it up for parts. It is nothing to look at but it has a race car engine and trany and read-end in it. A 350 4 bolt main. And it has 5 really rare chrome mag wheels on it from the small bolt pattern Buick Riviera of the same year. I've got several items going up next week as soon as I can get them photographed. Most are out in the trucks. Another time I'll tell you why I know so much about engines and wheels and such. Somebody once said I reminded them of the girl in My Cousin Vinny ;-)
Husband of mine just came in saying come to bed. I'll also tell ya'll more about the cookbook I'm working too later.
See ya'll on the Internet!

Monitor fade to black
This week I have done A LOT! Sold my old faithful 1982 Chevy caprice classic, and a few other items on Craig's list. Yeah for Craig's list! Then when I was fixin to list some more items my 10 year old computer monitor faded to black and burned, well almost, it started crackelin, popin and smellin like burnin plastic! I was throwin things out of the way to get to the surge protector to get it unplugged and turned off before it burst into flames! It must have been a funny site.
My computer has been a good one! I had her built in 1999 by Compaq. This model was not released to the public until Sept 2000. I had her built so she could be upgraded many times before I had to get another whole computer. Since that time she had been upgraded 3-4 times. My friend from church Travis helped fix it twice or 3 times when it got sick and needed repair. Then when it needed and up grade or 3 he did those for me, too. He does great work but moved back out west for graduate school when he finished college here. I found them (Travis, April and their brood) on Facebook a few months back. I was happy to see how well they were doing, even though we miss them at church here.
Thankfully this new monitor is compatible with my trusty computer. And the graphics card was large enough to handle, so far, this wonderful 19 inch flat HD wide screen monitor. MAN does this look good. Better than my old monitor even when it was new. Course this one is a wide screen and a 19 inch vs a 17 inch. And the space this one doesn't take up vs how MUCH space the other on did! I am very very pleased with this new one. Gratefully we had sold the car so we could get this really nice one. It is so much brighter and clearer than I imagine the old one was. Even lookin at the old one was a strain. Unfortunately the old speakers don't work so I'll have to get some of the plug into the surge protector kind. The old speakers were powered by the monitor and this new one is not designed that way. I don't like a silent computer. They make me nervous. I like one that makes sounds and I programed mine to make all kinds of conversational noise with me with all sorts of different types of sounds. Not just those Microsoft goofy sounds. For example, I have Radar from the old MASH TV show tell me when I have emails by saying Mail Call! It's fun.
It sorta was an emergency to get a monitor right now since I still have items listed on Craig's list. And on Freecycle, too. By the way, if you want to keep items out of the landfill, Freecycle is definitely the way to go. It gives you a place to share what you have and don't want and get other peoples trash for your treasure. FREE!
I was 'green' long before that was the word for it and way before it was cool to be that way. Back then we that did as I have always done were called weird and strange and sometimes hippy, cheap, old fashioned and a lot more, Now it is just cool.
More about that later. Right now, I gotta go list the old monitor on Freecycle , speakers and all.

just thinkin again
Hi ya'll,
I was just thinking again (dangerous huh?) I wanted to talk about myself (ha ha) Yes really, I really just wanted to brag. I got published! Yes, I know I am published here on the Internet but I 'inspired' Southern Living Magazine with a recipe on page 118 in the March 09 issue. My only problem with this recipe is not even my recipe anymore. I am glad to have my name in the finest southern magazine ever, but I would have preferred to have it attached to my own real recipe. Maybe they actually did improve it. I can't say cause I haven't tried theirs as they wrote it, cause my microwave died and I decided not to get another one. I did tonight however make theirs in my stainless steel waterless cookware pot. [Somebody remind me to tell you the story of how I got the cookware later.] Husband of mine said it was not as good as mine. He’s prejudice to my cooking and prefers my sweeter version.
And mine never had leftovers no matter where I took it. The kids in the family that don't like carrots love my carrots. Who knows? Ya'll try my carrots and see what you think. I try to always use organic ingredients.
The original carrot recipe is as follows:
Bag of baby carrots or a pound of carrots washed topped and tailed and chopped I like to cut mine slonchwise AKA oriental cut cause they cook faster.
1-Tablespoon butter melted or your favorite light tasting extra virgin olive oil
1/4-cup real maple syrup, grade b (best for you)
bunch of fresh basil, chopped
Toss the carrots with the butter or oil until the carrots are shiny in a microwave proof dish with a lid. Then pour the maple syrup over carrots. Sprinkle liberally with chopped fresh basil. Nuke for 5 minutes or longer to desired doneness. It takes a little longer in the cookware.
Let me know what ya'll think. Pride goeth before a fall. Theirs might be better. I hope I don't get in too much trouble with the Lord braggin on my self.
