Today this hour I am thankful for indoor plumbing. I know that sounds funny to young Americans. But I was between 5-10 when my Grandmother got indoor plumbing. And since that is where my mother and I lived that while Daddy was in the Navy and mother was in college at Greensboro Womens' College aka Greensboro Teachers college now known as UNCG. that was a big deal. Getting a toilet, tub and sinks with faucets was exciting! 'Cause before that we had an outhouse, slop jar (yuk), a dry sink with a water bucket and a large galvanized tub for bathing. I know I am not that old but that was how it was. (Funny part was they had electricity through the rural co-op before my mother graduated high school in the early 1950's. LOL) But this hour I am thankful for indoor plumbing.

My Granny and Grandaddy Gable had running water in the kitchen and a sink on the back porch for washing up and getting a drink, but an outhouse and a shower in the wellhouse! Grandaddy finally added a bathroom when I was maybe 8 or 9. We didn't live there, but I remember slop jars and outhouses and bathing in a galvanized tub in the yard when I visited in summers!
